Abstract

In this work we study a problem associated to the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations corresponding to a 2D backward-facing step flow problem at Reynolds number 800. Numerical solutions evaluated using the Finite Volume Method with OpenFOAM® are presented and the possibility of obtaining a stationary numerical solution is analyzed. Besides, a quasi-stationary state is defined to get a further insight into the computed solutions. Results obtained for the velocity field are compared with published ones for the steady case and different inlet-outlet positions are considered
